The problem actually started before we got married, and I should have realized really. We never did anything else but to go out to dinner and just hang out. Lots of other couples around us seemed to have actually shared interest and able to have a good time together. My husband’s idea of having fun together is having sex. Surely, there is more to life than this, and I know I am going to have a hard time as the kids grow up. Actually, I feel lonely in my marital relationship.

Getting married, or involved in a relationship, is easy but how do you make that relationship last. That is often more difficult than finding a new partner. The sad truth is that a lot of relationships do fall apart because of lack of common interests. Lots of married couples find that they have nothing in common after the kids have grown up, and left home. Even during the time that you are raising a family, this can be reflected in things that you do together. Many families do not actually do a lot of things together, instead they just travel around the kids to various activities. It is a great idea to have quality family time together, and that should not mean sitting in front of the TV together. Also, don’t forget that mom and dad need to have something in common.

Promoting common interests is sometimes easier said than done. Most people simply don’t have the time to promote or pay attention to maintaining or finding common interests. We are all busy working these days, and after that there is the house to look after. How do you fit in all in? That is the tricky part, and the part which most families, and partners, find most difficult to manage. Of course, it is important to make sure that you have a good job that keeps a roof over your head, but having a life together is as equally important.

Try to find some common denominator. It could be something as simple as going to the swimming pool once a week, or getting on your bikes on a Sunday morning. Hobbies can also include things in the house such as gaming, or doing crafts. It is important that there is a variety of activities for all of you to enjoy, families always evolve and you may find that you get bored with a hobby. Remember that you don’t have to spend a fortune on family activities, and it is often the activities which are the cheapest ones, which are also the most rewarding.
